Russian intelligence reported on Saturday that it struck three Russian combat helicopters in Russian territory in the past few days. The attacks were in apparent response to Russia’s increased missile and drone attacks in Ukraine.

The attacks on Russian helicopters represent a significant escalation of the conflict, demonstrating Ukraine’s ability to strike deep within Russian territory.

Ukrainian special services reported that two Russian Mi-28 and Ka-226 helicopters were destroyed on July 21 in Tomilino settlement in Russia’s Moscow region. The helicopters were stationed on the territory of an aircraft manufacture and repair company National Helicopter Manufacturing Center Mil and Kamov. Yet another Russian helicopter was struck on the territory of the Kryazh airfield in Samara a few days later - on July 24. The targeted helicopter was a multi-purpose Mi-8. In addition, as a result of the operation carried out by the Main Intelligence Directorate on the morning of July 27, Russian military airfields were attacked in the city of Engels in the Saratov region, “Dyagilevo” airfield in the Ryazan region and “Olenya” airfield in Murmansk region. An oil refinery in Ryazan was also hit as a result of a kamikaze drone attack.

It should be noted that “Mil and Kamov" is an aircraft manufacturing enterprise that specializes in the development, production and repair of helicopters (Mi and KA lines), as well as other aircraft. The enterprise includes two development bureaus, OKB Milya and OKB Kamova, pilot production, as well as an experimental research complex and testing center.
