At least ten people, including a child, were killed and 43 others were injured in a large-scale Russian missile attack on Ukraine’s southwestern Odessa city on Monday, local authorities reported.

Ukrainian President Zelenskiy condemned the strike as Russia’s deliberate and provocative act. "These are not random strikes, they are demonstrative strikes. After calls and meetings with Putin, after all the false rumors in the media about allegedly "refraining" from strikes. Russia is showing what it is really interested in. Only war," Zelenskiy stressed in a post on Facebook on Monday.

Head of the Presidential Office Andriy Yermak also described the attack as the deliberate targeting of civilians. “In Odessa, Russians killed people with a targeted strike on civilian infrastructure. Russian killers don't even hide their intentions,” Yermak wrote.

The attack that took place at noon, followed a warning issued by the Ukrainian Air Force about a ballistic threat originating from Russian-held Crimea Peninsula on that day. Russian strikes damaged civilian infrastructure, including residential buildings, Oleh Kiper, head of the Odessa Regional Military Administration said in a post in Telegram messaging app. Ukrainian MP Oleksiy Honcharenko present at the scene said at least two buildings caught fire during the attack. “This is horrifying. The center of Odessa, the center of Europe, and this nightmare is happening,” Honcharenko said. The MP added that an unexploded missile was found lodged in a building belonging to one of Odessa's educational institutions.
