Ukraine’s defence is overwhelmed as Russia is making gains on frontline

Ukraine is losing ground in the war as Russia has intensified its attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure and is making gains in the east of the country. The recent news of Russia's success on frontline was reported by Deep State Telegram channel on Tuesday. According to the information posted on the channel, Russian troops have advanced in three more settlements near Avdiivka and Vuhledar in eastern Donetsk region.
Meanwhile, head of Ukraine's intelligence service Kyrylo Budanov warned that Russia would launch a larger-scale offensive in late May and early June. Budanov said without help of Western allies it would be very difficult for Ukraine to counter Russian attacks, stressing that weapons were needed to defeat the command posts of Russian troops. He particularly pointed at TAURUS missiles, which in his words would significantly strengthen the capabilities of Ukrainian Security and Defense Forces.
Ukraine has also been suffering due to Russian attacks on its energy infrastructure. Senior adviser to Volodymyr Zelenskiy Mykhailo Podolyak said on Sunday that Russia was launching around 10 or 12 missiles on its power stations bypassing US-provided Patriots and other defence systems. “The system is overloaded. Now we have to see whether we can keep the system running, whether we need more air defence systems, especially against ballistic missiles, and whether we can restore the destroyed facilities,” the official stressed.
Russia’s steady advance in the frontline has caused concerns among Ukraine’s allies as well. Pentagon Press Secretary Pat Ryder on Monday described the situation in the frontline as “dire.
“You've got Russian forces that are making some gains on the front line. And it's absolutely essential that we get Ukraine what they need to include air defense capabilities so that they can check Russian aggression, defend their territory, and ultimately, take back their sovereign territory. So we're going to continue to work very hard towards that end,” the Pentagon official said. He urged the Congress to pass relevant legislation to ensure that Ukraine receives the military they need in order to sustain the fight.
