Ukrainian special forces have liberated key Kruhliakivka village near Kupyansk city in the country’s eastern Kharkiv region. The Main Directorate of Intelligence of Ukraine, HUR, announced the liberation of the village on Friday.
According to HUR, the operation to regain control of the important settlement lasted from October 7 to 14. HUR described Kruhliakivka as important for the defense of Kupiansk, a crucial strategic town in Kharkiv region located just 40 kilometers from the Russian border. HUR claimed that Russia lost more than a platoon of infantry during the recent operation.
“Thanks to the professional and courageous actions of the HUR Special Forces, the Russians lost more than an infantry platoon in Kruhliakivka - the invaders were eliminated in close combat,” HUR said in a statement.
Russian troops resisted, and tried to counterattack, but were defeated, their assault was repelled by the scouts, who continued to push the enemy out, the agency said. During the assault, the special forces of the Main Intelligence Directorate captured Russian military personnel and obtained important intelligence data from the hostages.
The news of recapture of Kruhliakivka came days after the Ukrainian intelligence reported liberation of 400 hectares of forest north of the village of Liptsi in Kharkiv region, located 10 kilometers south of the Russian border.
Kupiansk has been facing mounting Russian pressure from Russia over the past month amid renewed attacks on Kharkiv, with 19 attacks carried out in the sector over the past day.
