Ukraine on September 1 launched a record number of drone attacks across 15 Russian regions, including two over capital Moscow. The Russian Defence Ministry said on Sunday it intercepted 150 drones during the attacks.
Some 46 of the drones were shot over the Kursk region where Ukraine staged an incursion last week.
The ministry reported that an additional 34 drones were intercepted in the Bryansk region, 28 in the Voronezh region, and 14 in the Belgorod region, all of which are adjacent to Ukraine. In total, 15 Russian regions experienced drone strikes.
On Sunday, Moscow's Mayor Sergei Sobyanin stated that debris from one of the two drones downed over the city resulted in a fire at an oil refinery.
In Belgorod, Russia, Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov reported that nine individuals were injured in Ukrainian missile strikes in the border region. This number includes eight people in the regional capital, which is also named Belgorod.
Following a series of Ukrainian drone attacks, Russian forces launched another round of strikes on Kharkiv, Ukraine's second-largest city, on Sunday. Ukrainian officials reported that at least 10 Russian missiles struck various sites in Kharkiv, including a shopping mall, resulting in injuries to at least 44 individuals, among them five children.
Ukrainian drone attacks have extended the conflict beyond the front lines and into central Russia. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy expressed on Facebook that it is fully justified for Ukrainians to use any means necessary to counter Russian aggression and terrorism.
