The aircraft was shot down with the use of a man-portable air-defense system, specifically the Soviet-era Igla by personnel from the 28th Separate Mechanized Brigade jointly with the 57th Separate Anti-Aircraft Missile Battalion. A video circulated on social media showed the struck aircraft crush to the ground.
The incident marked the first case of downing of a Russian fighter jet this year. The last reported downing of a Russian Su-25 took place in October 2024.
