Ukraine destroys dozens of Russian military equipment over past day

Ukraine has inflicted heavy losses on Russia in terms of both military personnel and hardware in the past 24 hours of hostilities in the frontline, Ukraine’s military sources reported on Sunday.

Some 1,300 Russians soldiers were killed on October 12 along, bringing Russia’s casualty toll to 668,930 since the launch of full-fledged invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, the General Staff of Ukrainian Armed Forces reported. Ukrainians also destroyed a large number of Russian military equipment. In particular, over the past 24 hours, 9 tanks, 49 armored vehicles, 29 artillery systems, 1 MLRS, 2 air defense systems were destroyed. In addition, Ukrainian soldiers destroyed 45 operational-tactical UAVs, 71 units of automotive equipment and tank trucks, and 1 unit of special equipment.

According to the Air Force of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, on the night leading to October 13, Russian army units attacked the Poltava and Odessa regions with two Iskander-M ballistic missiles from the Kursk region of Crimea, two X-59 guided aircraft missiles in the Chernigov and Sumy regions from the airspace of the Kursk region, as well as 68 attack UAVs.

It is noted that as a result of anti-aircraft combat, 31 Russian UAVs were shot down in the Kyiv, Poltava, Chernigov, Sumy and Cherkassy regions. Some 36 Russian drones were struck across different regions of Ukraine, probably as a result of active counteraction to electronic warfare.

Russian media reported on October 12 the loss of a Su-34 fighter jet along with its crew-members. An analyst from the Institute for the Study of War, ISW, reported, citing Russian military officers that the Su-34 could have been shot down by a Ukrainian F-16.
