Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan will propose his peace plan to freeze the war in Ukraine during the G20 meeting scheduled for November 18 and 19.
Bloomberg cited unnamed sources as saying that Erdogan’s peace proposal provides for freezing the hostilities in the current position of both parties, as well as moratorium on Ukraine’s accession to NATO for at least ten years as a concession to Vladimir Putin. Erdogan’s proposal also includes setting up a demilitarized buffer zone in eastern Donbas region and stationing of international observers in this buffer zone, while providing Ukraine with military supplies as compensation for agreeing not to join NATO.
According to the agency sources, Erdogan will likely offer Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy to attend peace talks to be held in Istanbul, Turkey.
According to US media, US president-election Donald Trump has also proposed a peace plan that includes freezing the frontline along the current war zone, suspension of talks over Ukraine’s accession to NATO as well establishment of a demilitarized buffer zone.
It should be noted that the G20 countries will convene in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil this week without the participation of Russian President Vladimir Putin. Brazil is a party to the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court ICC, which issued an arrest warrant for Putin over war crimes committed in Ukraine.
