Trump urges an end to Russia-Ukraine war as he meets Zelenskiy in New York

Former US President and Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump has said that the war between Russia and Ukraine must end “very quickly” as he met Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelenskiy on Friday.
The two men met in New York amid the growing feud between them. Trump has continuously criticized Zelenskiy for not making concessions to reach a peace deal with Russia and has increasingly grown critical of US military funding for Kyiv. The Zelenskiy-Trump feud reignited recently after the Ukrainian leader said in an interview that Trump didn’t know how to end the war in Ukraine.
“We have a very good relationship, and I also have a very good relationship, as you know, with President Putin. And I think if we win, I think we’re going to get it resolved very quickly. I really think we’re going to get it,” Trump said during the meeting.
Following the meeting, Trump told Fox News that he had much in common with Zelenskiy. “We both want to see this end, and we both want to see a fair deal made,” he said. “It should stop and the president (Zelenskiy) wants it to stop, and I’m sure President Putin wants it to stop and that’s a good combination.”
Zelenskiy in turn, said they had a "common view that the war has to be stopped and Putin can't win". He later described the meeting as “very productive”.
The Ukrainian leader wrote on X social media platform: “I presented our Victory Plan, and we thoroughly reviewed the situation in Ukraine and the consequences of the war for our people. Many details were discussed. We share the common view that the war in Ukraine must be stopped. Putin cannot win. Ukrainians must prevail.” The meeting with Trump follows Zelenskiy’s visit to the UN general assembly and the White House where he presented his “victory plan” to President Joe Biden and Vice-President Kamala Harris.
