Trump’s Ukraine envoy to visit Kyiv in January amid efforts to address war

Donald Trump’s special envoy to Ukraine, Keith Kellogg, plans a trip to Kyiv and several other European cities after the president-elect’s inauguration in January. The planned trip is part of the incoming Trump administration’s efforts to address the Russia-Ukraine war, an unnamed source familiar with the matter told Reuters.

Kellogg who will serve as Trump’s special envoy for Ukraine and Russia, will hold discussions with Ukrainian authorities in Kyiv.  Kellogg's itinerary does not include a trip to Russia, although the envoy will visit other European cities, such as Paris and Rome, the source said.

The talks in Kyiv are expected to carry “fact-finding” character rather than being aimed at launching formal negotiations. The trip illustrates Trump administration’s determination to resolve the war in Ukraine. During his election campaign, Donald Trump said he would end the Russia-Ukraine war within 24 hours of assuming office, without providing details of how he would achieve this goal. Furthermore, on December 16, during his first press conference since re-election to the second term, Trump described the war in Ukraine as “horrible” and voiced his intention on “little progress” towards peace.  "We’re going to get a little progress. It’s a tough one, it’s a nasty one, it’s nasty,” the president-elect stressed.

Trump’s re-election has raised fears among Ukraine’s allies that US would withhold military aid to Kyiv and force Ukraine to make concessions to Russia.
