US President-elect Donald Trump’s special envoy to Ukraine, Keith Kellogg, has cancelled a planned trip to Kyiv until after the inauguration of Trump this month. The trip to Kyiv as well as to other European cities will be rescheduled.
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha confirmed on Tuesday that the high-profile visit had been cancelled. "We welcome all visits from our American friends. This is the first position. The second position is that we very much hope that after the inauguration, the first visits from the newly appointed administration - heads and leaders - will take place in Ukraine," Sybiha said.
The minister stressed the importance of Kellogg's visit for Ukraine, saying that he was currently in contact with Kellogg's representatives to clearly define the visit's timeframe and ensure it is filled with productive discussions.
The visit that was confirmed in December, was expected to be the first formal engagement between representatives of the incoming Trump administration and Ukrainian authorities following the US presidential election in November.
