Three civilians killed in Russian drone attacks across Ukraine

Russia launched drone attacks on Ukraine on early Friday, killing three persons in capital Kyiv, Ukrainian officials reported. Fifty-eight Iranian-made Shaheed kamikaze drones and other unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) were fired at Ukraine from various locations.

The Ukrainian Air Force claimed intercepting 25 drones across Kyiv, Sumy, Chernihiv, Cherkasy, Zhytomyr, Khmelnytsky, and Lviv regions. In addition, 27 UAVs were neutralized with the use of electronic warfare measures.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr described the attacks as “terror assaults”. In clear reference to Iran that supplies Russia with Shaheed drones, Zelenskiy said there was a need for accountability for every component used in producing Shahed drones after circumventing sanctions. “Russia’s ability to wage war would collapse entirely if its accomplices were effectively prevented from supporting this terror and frontline assaults,” Zelenskiy wrote on Telegram messaging app.

Eleven apartments, eight private houses were damaged during the overnight attack on Kyiv.

The attack came amid massive Ukrainian drone attacks targeting an oil refinery and the Kremniy El microelectronics plant in Russia’s Ryazan and Bryansk regions. Russian army claimed 120 Ukrainian UAV drones were hit across Russian regions. The attacks caused fire and temporary closure of airports in several regions.
