Seven European Union member countries have ordered ammunition under the EU procurement scheme to help Kyiv in its war against Russian invasion.
The orders are for 155mm artillery rounds, an important munition in Ukraine’s counteroffensive.
Placed under contracts negotiated by the European Defence Agency (EDA), the order will provide Ukraine with major munitions in its counteroffensive against Russia launched in June.
"Seven Member States have already placed orders for 155mm ammunition through the EDA’s fast-track procedure," the European Defence Agency told media. The agency added that more relevant orders could materialize in the coming weeks and months.
Worth 2 billion euros, the scheme covered four "modern firing platforms designed and produced in Europe”, including France’s CAESAR, Poland’s Krab, Germany’s PzH2000 and Slovakia’s Zuzana C/2000 that are commonly used by the Ukrainian army, it said. The scheme to supply Ukraine with million shells and missiles to Ukraine within a year was set up back in March.
