A video capturing Russian attack on Kurakhove dam reservoir in Ukraine’s Donetsk region has surfaced online. Local authorities on Tuesday confirmed the damage in the Kurakhove dam in Ukraine’s east, adding that the strike had caused the flooding in a nearby village.

The head of the Donetsk regional military administration, Vadym Filashkin, said the water level in the Vovcha River near the reservoir rose by 1.2 meters within the Velikonovosilkiv community, though no flooding of homes has been reported. Filashkin warned that the Russian strike poses a threat to residents along the river in Donetsk and Dnipropetrovsk oblasts.

Head of the Kurakhove City Military Administration Roman Padun told Ukrainian media that the authorities are aware of the rising water levels in nearby villages. “We cannot confirm the extent or critical nature of the damage. We are unable to inspect the dam due to ongoing shelling,” the official said. Ukrainian media quoted emergency services as saying that the shelling of Kurakhove dam reservoir occurred at 9:00 a.m on November 11, which led to the dam’s destruction.

Russian pro-war Telegram channels have blamed Ukraine for destroying the dam. The Ukrainian military has not commented on these claims yet. It should be noted that Russian forces destroyed Ukraine’s the Kakhovka hydroelectric power station last June, causing casualties, loss of homes and serious environmental problems.
