Russia seeks extradition of Ukraine’s security service chief for “terrorism”

Russia has demanded the extradition of Ukraine’s security chief and a number of other people over claims they were linked to “terrorist” acts committed in Russia.

The Russian Foreign Ministry made a relevant statement on Sunday.

"Russia has turned over to Ukrainian authorities its demands ... for the immediate arrest and extradition of all those connected to the terrorist acts in question," the statement said. The ministry statement listed violent incidents that have occurred in Russia since the country’s full-fledged invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, including bombings that killed the daughter of a prominent nationalist and a war blogger and an incident in which a writer was seriously hurt.

Moscow said investigations into violent incidents in Russia in the past few years have led to Ukraine.

"The Russian side demands that the Kyiv regime immediately cease all support for terrorist activity, extradite guilty parties and compensate the victims for damages… Ukraine's violation of its obligations under anti-terrorist conventions will result in it being held to account in international legal terms,” the ministry went on stating.

Ukraine’s Security Service rejected Russia’s claims right away, also describing Moscow’s demand as “pointless”. The agency reminded that Russian President Vladimir Putin was in the international wanted list for the war crimes committed in Ukraine.
