Russia’s combat losses surpass 700,000 in Ukraine

Russia has suffered 770,720 combat casualties in its full-fledged invasion of Ukraine since February 2022, including 1,630 killed or injured in the past 24 hours alone, Ukrainian military reported on Tuesday.

The General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces publicized the updated list of Russia’s losses in terms of military hardware on Tuesday. According to the General Staff’s report published on Facebook, as of December 24, Ukraine has destroyed 9,624 Russian tanks, 19,915 armored fighting vehicles, 21,323 artillery systems, 1,256 multiple rocket launchers, 1,030 air defense systems, 369 warplanes, 329 helicopters, 20,834 operational and tactical-level UAVs, 2,948 cruise missiles, 28 warships/cutters, a submarine, 32,086 vehicles and fuel tankers, and 3,667 units of specialized equipment. Dozens of Russian military equipment and hardware were demolished during the fighting in the past day.

Russia has not revealed its military losses. However, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy claimed in early December that 198,000 Russian soldiers had been killed and a further 550,000 wounded in the war so far. Hist estimates of Russian losses are similar to those provided by Western officials, who believe Russia has suffered around 800,000 casualties, both killed and injured. Zelenskiy also revealed Ukraine’s combat losses, saying as of December some 43,000 Ukrainian soldiers have been killed since Russia's full-scale invasion began.
