Russia lost 1,300 troops in the frontline overnight

Russia continues to suffer heavy losses in the frontline. Some 1,300 Russian servicemen were killed on May 23, bringing the total number of Russian losses to 497,700 people since the start of Ukraine’s full-fledged invasion in February 2022. The General Staff spokesperson Dmytro Lykhovii said some 139 combat engagements occured along the frontline in the past day.
Russia also suffered heavy losses in terms of military equipment. The Ukrainian army destroyed 11 Russian tanks, 27 armoured combat vehicles, 40 artillery systems, one air defence system, one aircraft, 45 UAVs, one cruise missile, 71 vehicles and tankers and 4 special equipment in the past day.
Overall, Ukrainian forces have destroyed 7,622 Russian tanks, 1,748 armoured combat vehicles, 1,860 artillery systems, 1,077 MLRS, 813 air defence systems, 355 aircraft, and 326 helicopters, 10391 operational and tactical UAVs, 2209 cruise missiles, 27 ships/boats - 27, one submarines, 17513 vehicles and tankers, 2094 special equipment since the start of the war. On May 22, Ukrainian Defence Forces shot down a Russian SU-25 attack aircraft in the Pokrovske direction of the frontline.
The Kremlin has not disclosed the number of Russian troops killed in its war in Ukraine. Russia has intensified its attacks on northern parts of Ukraine. Russia’s losses are believed to increase as it declared the opening of a new front in Ukraine’s second largest city of Kharkiv in recent weeks.
