Russia has launched around 500 guided aerial bombs, over 400 drones and 20 missiles of various types across Ukrainian cities in the past week, Ukrainian President Zelenskiy wrote on Telegram app on Monday.
"Our cities and communities endure constant terrorist attacks. Every day, the defenders of our skies fight back against Russian terror,” Zelensky wrote.
The Ukrainian leader stressed that “This daily terror and ongoing war can no longer be seen as the problem of a single nation. It requires joint action from all who value life—in Europe, America, and around the world. Only together can we achieve a just peace.”He went on saying that Ukraine needed to bolster its air defences. “Ukraine needs more air defense systems, and we are working on this with our partners. It is crucial to strengthen the protection of our sky.”
Russia launched a barrage of missiles and drones across Ukrainian cities on the night leading to Monday, with air defense forces shooting down 18 air targets over the country’s regions. Russia also shelled Ukraine’s Dnipropetrovsk region with kamikaze drones and artillery on Sunday. The infrastructure of several private enterprises sustained damage from the downed drones’ debris in Vinnytsia region.
Zelenskiy seeks to acquire advance air defence systems from its allies in response to Russia’s use of intermediate-range ballistic missile (IRBM) called "Oreshnik" in the attack on Ukraine’s Dnipro city on November November 21. On November 22, following the surprise Russian attack with Oreshnik, Zelenskiy instructed Defense Minister Rustem Umerov to engage with partners on acquiring advanced air defense systems.
