Russia downs 83 drones amid massive Ukrainian attack

Russian Defence Ministry said its Air Forces on Thursday it shot down 83 drones amid large-scale Ukrainian attack across the country on Thursday.

According to the ministry, 37 drones were downed over the Bryansk region, while 12 were intercepted over the Kursk and Lipetsk regions. Nine drones were also downed in the Tver region, three each over the Belgorod, Kaluga, Smolensk, and Voronezh regions, while one drone was intercepted over the Rostov region. One woman was injured during the attack on central Lipetsk region, the regional governor Igor Artamonov said. Twelve explosions were heard in the industrial zone of Lipetsk town where major metallurgical companies, Novolipetsk Metallurgical Complex, known as NLMK. The factory that amounts to 20% of metal production in Russia was also attacked by Ukrainian drones in February last year. According to some Russian Telegram channels, the factory was the main target during the attack on Lipetsk. Kyiv has not commented on its possible involvement in the overnight drone attacks on Russia. However, Kyiv has repeatedly stated its intention to reduce supply of fuel, resources and materials needed for Russia’s war efforts.

Meanwhile, Ukraine’s military said it intercepted 85 Russian Shaheed-type and other drones overnight, adding that 52 Russian drones failed to reach their intended targets. The drones had been launched from multiple directions, including Oryol, Kursk, Bryansk, and Primorsko-Akhtarsk on Thursday.

As many as 52 Russian drones failed to reach their intended targets and were “lost in location” without causing damage, according to Ukraine.
