Ukraine and Russia have exchanged airstrikes with Kyiv striking Russia’s Belgorod region and Moscow hitting cities across Ukraine on Thursday.
At least six people were killed and 18 injured in a missile strike on Russia's Belgorod border region on Thursday, regional governor Vyacheselv Gladkov said. He added that seven homes were damaged during the attack. Among the injured were children.
The attack on Belgorod, the city of about 340,000 people, came hours after Russia fired two dozen cruise and ballistic missiles across Ukrainian regions. Ukrainian authorities reported downing several Russian Tu-95 strategic bombers in the early hours of Thursday. Among the hit Ukrainian cities are Dnipro, Lviv, Kyiv and frontline Zaporizhzhia city. There were reports of a damaged apartment building in Zaporizhzhia. Dozens of people were injured during the attacks across Ukraine, the respective local officials reported.
Hours earlier, five people were killed in an apartment building in Russia’s midnight attacks in Ukraine’s northeast.
The latest series of airstrikes follow the Ukrainian drone attack on Russia’s Black Sea Fleet ship Caesar Kunikov on Wednesday. The warship was hit by "MAGURA" V5 drone that damaged the ship, causing “critical holes” in it, the Ukrainian military intelligence agency said. The attack on Caesar Kunikov was the latest in a series of Ukrainian attacks on the Russian navy in the Black Sea as Kyiv has been stepping up its attacks on Crimea that was annexed by Russia in 2014.
