New drone attack reported in Moldova’s Transnistria region
- 6 April, 09:37
A kamikaze drone hit a military facility belonging to the defense ministry of the separatist authorities in Moldova's breakaway Transnistria region, the region's security ministry said on Friday. Specifically, a radar station was affected by the attack, according to the report. No casualties have been reported during the attack. It should be noted that the reported drone attack has not been confirmed by the authorities in Chisinau. A team of investigators is currently on-site, and criminal proceedings have been launched into the attack.
The incident follows a similar drone attack in March, which targeted a Mi-8MT transport helicopter at a military airfield near Tiraspol. Transnistrian officials condemned the attack as an act of terrorism and sought assistance from mediators such as the OSCE, Russia, and Ukraine for the investigation. However, Moldovan authorities declined to participate.
Last April, a series of terrorist incidents occurred in Transnistria, including rocket-propelled grenade attacks on government buildings and the destruction of communication infrastructure. President Vadim Krasnoselsky attributed these attacks to perpetrators operating from Ukrainian territory and also implicated Moldovan secret services. Consequently, a high level of terrorist threat alert remains in place in Transnistria.
