The Kremlin on Monday confirmed that US President Donald Trump and Russian leader Vladimir Putin would have a phone call on Tuesday to discuss ending the war in Ukraine.
"There is such a conversation being prepared for Tuesday," Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters, without commenting on what the two presidents would discuss.
Earlier, US President Donald Trump said he planned to speak with Putin, adding that discussions are already underway on "dividing up certain assets" between the warring sides.
"I think we'll be talking about land... we'll be talking about power plants," Trump said in apparent reference to Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant in southern Ukraine. "I think we have a lot of it already discussed very much by both sides, Ukraine and Russia. We're already talking about that - dividing up certain assets," Trump said.
Trump's special envoy to Ukraine, Steve Witkoff, told CNN he expects "the two presidents are going to have a really good and positive discussion this week." "Trump really expects there to be some sort of deal in the coming weeks, maybe, and I believe that's the case," he added.
Trump has been pressing Moscow to agree to ceasefire with Kyiv, however, there has been on clear response from Russia’s to US proposal to cease-fire deal.
