Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov on Thursday pledged to respond to Ukraine’s drone attack on Chechnya, the second such attack on the South Caucasus republic this month. Kadyrov wrote on Telegram app that four officers were injured as a Ukrainian drone struck barracks of Akhmat Kadyrov special forces police regiment.

“Just for these four wounded, we will put down 400,” Kadyrov wrote, promising revenge. The Ukrainian drone was shot down, causing fire that was extinguished.

“The drone exploded in the air, damaged the roof and broke the windows. The fragments caused a small fire which was quickly extinguished,” Kadyrov added. The attack occurred at 1:00 on Thursday, December 12. According to media reports, five ambulances arrived in the site of the incident.

The Russian Defense Ministry confirmed that it downed one Ukrainian drone over Chechnya overnight. Three more Ukrainian drones were shot down the neighboring region of North Ossetia and eight over the annexed Ukrainian peninsula of Crimea. Overall, Russia downed 16 Ukrainian drones on Thursday.

It should be noted that the drone strike on Akhmat Kadyrov special forces police regiment was the second attack on the facility this month. Another Ukrainian drone strike was launched on the Russian Special Forces University in Chechnya’s Gudermes town in October. The academy has reportedly trained 47,000 troops deployed to Ukraine.
