At least 65 people were killed in Israeli airstrikes in Gaza in the past 24 hours, nearly a week after Israel broke its ceasefire with Hamas, Palestinian health authority stated on Monday.
Among those killed were two local journalists - Mohammad Mansour, a reporter who worked for Palestine Today and Hussam Shabat a journalist for the Al Jazeera - who were killed in air stirke in Beit Lahiya and Khan Younis, doctors said. According to witnesses, Mansour was targeted “in his house alongside his wife and his son” without any prior warning.
The fresh attack comes afer Israel launched new air strikes in Gaza on Tuesday last week, killing 700 people, mostly civilians, in a wave of strike, ending two months of relative calm, according to the Palestinian health ministry in the territory run by Hamas.
Hamas is still holding 59 hostages, with 24 of them thought to be still alive, among the more than 250 it kidnapped in its 7 October 2023 cross-border attack on Israel.
