Israel has launched a strike on Syria near the Lebanese border. The Israeli military said it struck weapons storage facilities and command centers belonging to Iran-affiliated Hezbollah group’s elite Radwan Force in Syria. The attack was launched on al-Qusayr area of Homs province close to Lebanon’s border with Syria on Thursday.

The Israeli military explained that in recent months, it has been launching strikes to reduce the transfer of weapons from its rival Iran through Syria to Hezbollah militants in Lebanon, which it said had spread to into the town of Al-Qusayr.

The Syrian media reported that a number of civilians were injured and material damage was caused by the Israeli strikes in Homs province. Earlier on Thursday, five people were killed in northern Israel as a result of Hezbollah attack, as Lebanon said Israeli strikes killed six health workers in the country's south. The attacks come amid the scheduled meeting between UN envoys and Israeli officials in Israel on Thursday aimed at discussing to efforts towards a ceasefire in both Lebanon, and in Gaza.

Israel has stepped up attacks against Iranian-backed Hezbollah and Hamas militant groups since deadly attack on October 7 last year. It has also been targeting Iran-backed militant groups in Syria for more than a decade.
