Israel renews ground offensive in northern Gaza Strip
- 4 April, 15:01
Israel started fresh ground operations in the northern Gaza Strip on Friday, killing 25 people in southern Khan Younis city. The Israeli army, IDF, said the ground activity was started in the area of Shejaiya in northern Gaza “in order to expand the security zone.”
"As part of the activity, the troops eliminated numerous terrorists and dismantled Hamas terrorist infrastructure, including a command and control center that served Hamas terrorists to plan and execute terror attacks," the IDF said in a statement, stressing that "during and prior to the activity, IDF troops are allowing the evacuation of civilians from the combat zone via organized routes for their safety."
The IDF revaled that it would continue to "operate against terrorist organizations in the Gaza Strip in order to protect the citizens of the State of Israel” together with the Israel Security Agency (ISA).
Last month, Israel resumed fighting in Gaza strip breaking the ceasefire established in January this year. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office said the military operation was aimed at securing the release of Israeli hostages captured by Hamas.
Israeli officials this week pledged to seize large swathes of lands in Gaza Strip as a security zone and establish a new military corridor between Rafah and Khan Younis.
