Israel’s newly-elected Defence Minister Katz has said that Iran’s nuclear sites are more vulnerable than ever, following his country’s airstrikes on its air defense sites last month.
“Iran today is more exposed than ever to damage to its nuclear facilities. There is a possibility to achieve the most important goal, to thwart and remove the threat of annihilation from hanging over the State of Israel,” Katz says during his first meeting with IDF General Staff Forum on Monday.
Katz, is a hardline politician who took over as Israel’s defence minister after the dismissal of Yoav Gallant last week.
“We have more opportunity to achieve our most important goal - to thwart and eliminate the existential threat to the State of Israel,” the minister added in a post on his X account.
Tehran has repeatedly rejected Israel’s claims that it’s building nuclear weapons. Iran has reportedly enriched uranium up to 60 percent, just 30 percent below atomic weapons grade since
2018 when the United States withdrew from a 2015 nuclear accord on limiting Iran's nuclear ambitions.
Israel launched waves of airstrikes on Iran’s military facilities on October 26 in response to Tehran’s previous air strikes on its territory. The Israeli attack, however did not target Iran’s nuclear and oil facilities due to pressure on Tel-Aviv from Washington.
