Germany has announced new aid package to Ukraine to help Kyiv’s efforts in the war with Russia. The new package includes new advance air defence systems and key military equipment and hardware.
The German Federal Government updated the list of military assistance to Ukraine in its official webpage on December 23.
According to the information provided by the Federal government, the new military aid package consists of the sixth IRIS-T SLM and fifth IRIS-T SLS air defense systems, each with two launchers and missiles; two more Patriot launchers, adding to the two previously supplied; and 12 armored vehicles equipped with kinetic defense systems, made by Diehl Defense, marking their first delivery to Ukraine.
Germany has also provided Ukraine with two Gepard self-propelled anti-aircraft guns, along with 65,000 rounds of ammunition (the production of which was recently restarted), two TRML-4D air surveillance radars, and an undisclosed number of AIM-9L/I-1 Sidewinder missiles.
The Federal Government reminded that since the start of Russia's military invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022, Germany has provided materials from the Federal Armed Forces' stocks, totaling around 5.2 billion euros based on estimated replacement values. Additionally, over 10,000 Ukrainian soldiers have undergone military training in Germany, with costs for this training reaching approximately 282 million euros. Further expenses, not included in this total, arise from medical treatment for injured soldiers.
It should be noted that Germany is Ukraine's largest military supporter after the United States.
