The ruling Georgia Dream party has announced that it will present a draft law to “protect the public from pseudo-liberal ideology”.

The announcement was made on Thursday by the chair of the party’s parliamentary faction, Mamuka Mdinaradze who said it would take two weeks for the party to work on the bill for its submission to the parliament.

He said the bill would “fully respect the principles and norms outlined in the constitution”, adding “the rights of each of our citizens must be and will be protected fundamentally, regardless of their mode of life”, but claimed the need for the initiative. Mdinaradze did not specify what would be included in the bill.

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Friday said the ruling party’s legislative initiative to “protect the public from pseudo-liberal ideology” should be developed in accordance with the constitutional principles of human rights.

In his remarks over the matter, Kobakhidze claimed the presence of unspecified “severe trends in different states, as reflected in statistics”, and said the parliamentary majority wanted to “protect the public from the possible development of such processes” with the bill.

The bill should be prepared in accordance with the principles of the second chapter of the constitution of Georgia - this is the main defining principle for me”, the PM pointed out.
