France will deliver hundreds of armoured vehicles to Ukraine as part of a new package of military aid to help the country in its war against Russia, French Defense Minister Sébastien Lecornu said on Sunday.

In an interview with the French newspaper La Tribune, Lecornu said the vehicles would be sent by the beginning of the next year.

“To hold such an extensive front line, the Ukrainian army needs, for example, our armored personnel carriers. It’s absolutely key for troop mobility. We are talking about hundreds of them for 2024 and early 2025,” Lecornu said. The minister also said France will provide Ukraine with more anti-aircraft missiles.

Last week Lecornu said France will soon be able to deliver 78 Caesar howitzers  to Ukraine and will increase its supply of shells.

France has been stepping up military aid to Ukraine by encouraging defence companies to boost production to meet Ukraine’s increased needs after Kyiv warned its stocks of munitions are running low.

Overall, France has contributed more than € 3.8 billion to Ukraine’s defence between 24 February 2022 and 31 December 2023.This includes €2.615 billion worth in military aid as well as € 1.2 billion paid to the European Peace Facility (EPF).
