Children among 58 killed in Israeli strike on Gaza Strip

Fresh Israeli airstrikes on Gaza Strip killed at least 58 people, including children on Sunday, Gaza’s Health Ministry reported on Monday.
Eight people, among them two children, were killed as the Israeli strike hit a tent camp in humanitarian zone of Muwasi. Nasser hospital in Khan Younis, which received the dead bodies, reported that it recorded another six fatalities from a strike on individuals who were escorting an aid convoy. Another three people were killed during an attack on a school turned shelter in Nuseirat refugee camp.
The Israeli military claims that it targets only militants, accusing them of hiding among civilians. On Sunday, it claimed to have struck Hamas fighters in the humanitarian zone. Hamas, however, denies operating among civilians. Israel states that the purpose of its renewed assault on the north is to prevent Hamas fighters from reassembling in the area.
Tens of thousands of people are taking refuge along Gaza's Mediterranean coastline, where they are enduring severe winter conditions with insufficient shelter, food, and fuel. As temperatures drop, a series of storms have also torn apart makeshift tents.
The war in Gaza began after Hamas militants attacked southern Israel on October 7, 2023, killing 1,200 people and abducting 250 others. About 100 Israeli hostages have not been returned to Israel, with one-third of them believed to be dead.
