US President Joe Biden has announced a new military aid package worth $425 million for Ukraine. Biden made the announcement on Wednesday while speaking to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy about efforts to surge security assistance to the country amid the war with Russia. The security package for Ukraine includes air defense capability, air-to-ground munitions, armored vehicles, and critical munitions, the White House said in a statement.

Earlier, White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said at a briefing that Biden would speak to Zelenskiy and announce a significant new security assistance package for Ukraine today.

It should be noted that US is the largest supporter of Ukraine in the ongoing war with Russia. Washington has supplied up to $61.3 billion in military assistance to Ukraine since Russia’s full-scale invasion of the country on February 24, 2022. New US military aid package comes amid Russia’s advances in the east of Ukraine. At the same time, Ukrainian troops are holding swathes of lands in Russia’s Kursk region after a surprise incursion there in early August.
