Belarus says it thwarted drone attack from Lithuania

Belarus has claimed to have foiled an attempted drone attack on the capital, Minsk, originating from NATO-member Lithuania.

"The State Security Committee, in cooperation with colleagues from other law enforcement agencies, has recently carried out a number of acute security measures, which made it possible to prevent strikes by combat drones from the territory of Lithuania on objects in Minsk and its suburbs," Russian state news agencies quoted Ivan Tertel, head of the Belarusian security service, as saying in a statement on Thursday. The agency head did not provide any evidence to back his claims against Lithunia.

These accusations of a drone attack coincide with statements from Putin’s closes ally, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, who suggested that the opposition planned to seize a district in western Belarus and seek support from NATO forces. Lukashenko expressed concerns about potential military incidents along the country's border with neighboring Ukraine. He also warned of the possibility of an "apocalypse" if Russia were to use nuclear weapons in response to Western actions.

Additionally, Lukashenko mentioned that Belarus had deployed "several dozen" Russian tactical nuclear weapons, in accordance with an agreement announced last year between himself and Russian President Vladimir Putin.
