Azerbaijan, Serbia to build joint gas-fired power plant

Azerbaijan and Serbia will sign a memorandum of cooperation for the construction of a gas-fired power plant near the Serbian city of Niš.

The plans to build the joint power plant was announced by Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić in his official Facebook page on Monday, December 23 while summing up his meeting with the visiting Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Ceyhun Bayramov.

Vučić said the plant would provide an additional source of electricity for Serbian citizens. The president explained that he and FM Bayramov discussed the current geopolitical opportunities, the situation in the region, energy security, as well as the bilateral relations between Serbia and Azerbaijan. He noted that the talks included economic collaboration, cooperation in the military-industrial sector, and Azerbaijan's participation in Expo 2027.

Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic has previously emphasized the significance of the ongoing energy sector talks between Baku and Belgrade. He praised

the gas power plant project as a key element in enhancing cooperation and meeting Serbia’s long-term energy requirements.
