Azerbaijan is demanding clarification from Armenia regarding legal and constitutional documents containing elements of "Miatsum" and other territorial claims, Azerbaijani Presidential aide Hikmat Hajiyev said on March 1.

Addressing the Third Diplomatic Forum in Antalya, Hikmet Hajiyev, emphasized the need for a sincere commitment from Armenia to progress the interim agenda while staying alert to potential new developments that could worsen geopolitical divisions. He stressed the importance of demarcating borders between Azerbaijan and Armenia, highlighting that peace concerns Baku and Yerevan directly rather than external capitals such as Paris or Brussels.

Moreover, Hajiyev highlighted the significance of a peace treaty between the two countries, stressing that it should not be pursued merely as a formality but must genuinely reflect the intent to achieve lasting peace.

It should be noted that the notion of "Miatsum" originated in the late 1980s and early 1990s during the Karabakh movement, reaching its peak during the First Nagorno-Karabakh War from 1992 to 1994. It expressed Armenian dissatisfaction with the fact that the region, predominantly populated by Armenians, continued to be under Azerbaijan's jurisdiction.
