Azerbaijan eyes expanding cooperation with China

Azerbaijani presidential aide Hikmat Hajiyev has said that Baku is interested in deepening cooperation with China.

In an interview with the Chinese publication Global Times on March 25, Hikmet Hajiyev, Assistant to the President of Azerbaijan and Head of the Foreign Policy Affairs Department of the Presidential Administration, highlighted the strong political relationship between Azerbaijan and China and the potential for increased cooperation in trade, transport, and energy sectors.

Hajiyev expressed gratitude for China's longstanding support and emphasized the need for closer business ties between the two countries. He mentioned Azerbaijan's shift towards sustainable growth and its interest in attracting Chinese investments, specifically in renewable energy.

He emphasized the importance of digital transformation for Azerbaijan's development goals and stated interest in collaborating with Chinese companies to establish renewable energy production in Azerbaijan. Hajiyev also mentioned Azerbaijan's interest in developing a manufacturing base in the electric automobile industry through partnerships with Chinese firms.

Regarding the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), Hajiyev highlighted the strategic importance of Chinese-Azerbaijani cooperation in the Middle Corridor, emphasizing Azerbaijan's role as a key link between China and the EU. He mentioned the potential for enhanced connectivity with Central Asian countries through the BRI, strengthening the partnership between China and Azerbaijan.

Hajiyev reiterated Azerbaijan's support for the one-China policy and criticized the recent 'Taiwan region of China' election. He reaffirmed Azerbaijan's commitment to a strong political relationship with China and expressed optimism about the growing trade relationship between the two countries.
