Armenia and France have signed a defence cooperation programme for 2025 that includes “dozens of activities across nearly all areas of the armed forces’ operations,” Armenian Defence Ministry reported on Thursday.

The ministry highlighted cooperation in defence planning, military education and exercises, advisory support, training of various troop types, and other areas of military-technical collaboration as major aspects of military cooperation.

The “strategic consultations” on military cooperation was led by Levon Ayvazyan, head of Armenia’s Department of Defence Policy and International Cooperation, and Alexandre Escorcia, a representative of France’s Directorate for International Cooperation and Strategy, the ministry stated.

The Defence Ministry also reported that the Armed Forces command is satisfied with the level of interaction with French partners and is committed to expanding cooperation:
“Priorities for reforms in Armenia’s armed forces and the progress of cooperation with France within these reforms were discussed.”

There have been no further details about the newly-signed cooperation programme for 2025. Armenia has also not disclosed the contents of the defence contracts reportedly signed with representatives of several defence industry companies in France in June last year.

It should be noted that earlier in September, Armenia and France reached an agreement on cadet exchanges and the modernisation of educational programmes during the visit of a delegation of Armenia’s Vazgen Sargsyan Military Academy to France’s Saint-Cyr Military Academy.
