Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan and his Azerbaijani counterpart Ceyhun Bayramov held peace talk in Germany on February 28.
The meeting was mediated by German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock who hosted her counterparts in Villa Borsig. Annalena Baerbock thanked the two ministers for undertaking the peace talks to resolve the conflict between the two countries.
"We believe that Armenia and Azerbaijan now have an opportunity to achieve an enduring peace after years of painful conflict,” she said, stressing that Germany is ready to facilitate further talks to reach an agreement.
An Armenian government statement on the trilateral meeting said Aliyev and Pashinyan agreed to “continue the work on a peace treaty” between their countries. The Azerbaijani state media reported that the foreign ministers of Azerbaijan and Armenia held discussions on the draft "Bilateral Agreement on Peace and the Establishment of Interstate Relations".
Earlier on February 17, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz hosted talks between Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev on the sidelines of Munich international security conference. Aliyev and Pashinyan sounded satisfied with that meeting. However, last week Pashinyan said that Azerbaijan remains reluctant to recognize Armenia’s borders and claimed that Baku is planning military aggression against his country.
