Armenia, Azerbaijan trade accusations over cross-border shooting

Armenia and Azerbaijan have traded accusations over the violation of cease-fire on the two countries’ border amid the ongoing peace talks. The Azerbaijani Defence Ministry on Tuesday accused Armenia of firing at its positions in the directions of Heydarabad settlement of Sadarak region and Bichanak settlement of Shahbuz region of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic on the evening of April 1. The ministry claimed Armenian units stationed in Arazdeyen settlement of Davali region and Saybali settlement of Garakilsa region opened fire at Azerbaijani troops with the use of small arms.
The Armenian Defence Ministry rejected Azerbaijan’s claims of cease-fire violation by Armenia. Moreover, the ministry accused the Azerbaijani armed forces units of opening fire on Armenian combat positions on Monday at 10am in Kut (Gegharkunik Province) and on Tuesday at 12:40am in Tegh (Syunik Province) villages.
No violations were recorded in the directions mentioned in the statement by Azerbaijan, the ministry stated. There have been no casualties on either side as a result of the truce violation. It’s worth mentioning that the incident occurred amid international mediation efforts to resolve the conflict between the two countries and to achieve the signing of a final peace deal.
