Russian shelling has killed four civilians and injured nine others in Ukraine’s southeastern Kherson city over the weekend.

Among the killed people are a couple in their 80s, Kherson governor Oleksandr Prokudin reported in his Telegram channel on Saturday. Prokudin said that the couple were killed as a Russian artillery shell hit a residential building in the city.

According to Ukrainian media, the city has been attacked 88 times over the past day.

In another incident two people were injured in Russian shelling of twenty towns and villages across Kharkov region, regional governor Oleh Syniehubov said

Apart from Kherson and Kharkov, Ukraine’s other regions came under attack on Sunday, with 14 of the Iranian-made Shahed drones being destroyed over Zaporizhia, Mykolaiv, Kirovohrad, Dnipropetrovsk, and Khmelnytskyi regions.

The incident occurred as Ukraine is preparing to mark Christmas on 25 December for the first time. President Volodymyr Zelenskiy signed legislation in July moving the public Christmas Day holiday to 25 December in response to Russia’s February 2022 invasion of Ukraine.
