Azerbaijan rules out any foreign country’s military involvement in 2020 war with Armenia

The Azerbaijani Defence Ministry has stated that no foreign country’s servicemen fought on Azerbaijan’s side during the country's victory over Armenia in a war in 2020. The Ministry statement was an indirect response to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s recent statement that the Turkish troops fought in Karabah, the region that Azerbaijan regained control over in the war two years ago.
“Statements about the participation of servicemen of any country in military actions related to the restoration of Azerbaijan's territorial integrity and sovereignty have no basis,” the ministry said in a statement issued on Monday.
The ministry stressed that the support provided to Azerbaijan by its closest ally Turkiye was “political. "Turkey and Pakistan have provided political support to Azerbaijan, and President Ilham Aliyev has repeatedly expressed his gratitude to them,” the statement reads.
The ministry’s statement follows Erdogan's controversial statement that his country might initiate military intervention in Israel to stop the war in Gaza.
"Just like we entered Karabakh, just like we entered Libya, we might do something similar to them,” Erdogan said while addressing the meeting with his Justice and Development Party (AKP) on Sunday. Turkey "must be very strong so that Israel can't do these ridiculous things to Palestine,” the Turkish leader said.
