Zelensky expresses dissatisfaction with Geneva talks, calls for fresh negotiations

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy has expressed dissatisfaction with the latest talks held in Geneva with Russian negotiators aimed at ending the four-year-war.

“As of today, we cannot say that the result is sufficient,” Zelenskiy said in his evening address on Wednesday while summing up the results of the peace talks in Geneva.

“The military discussed certain issues seriously and substantively. Sensitive political matters, possible compromises and the necessary meeting of leaders have not yet been sufficiently addressed,” Zelenskiy. He called for the next stage of discussions to be held in late February.

The Ukrainian leader stressed the importance of involving Europeans representatives in Geneva – from the United States, Germany, France, Switzerland and Italy as the host country. "It is we, in Ukraine, who always push the position that Europe must be part of the process. I want to thank the United States for taking this position into account," he said.

The Ukrainian leader also complained about US pressure on Kyiv during Geneva talks, describing the move as “unfair. He stressed it was “not fair” US President Donald Trump kept publicly calling on Ukraine, not Russia, to make concessions in negotiating terms for a peace plan. “I hope it is just his tactics and not the decision,” Zelenskiy said.

Furthermore, Zelenskiy revealed that he has instructed his delegation to discuss the humanitarian issues, such as exchange of prisoners of war and the release of civilians. "We track information on every person and work constantly to bring our people back – bring Ukrainians home. Every exchange matters. I am also grateful to our warriors on the frontline, who carry out active operations and replenish the exchange fund for us, for Ukraine," he emphasized.
