International Olympic Committee, IOC apologizes to Azerbaijan over comments about Karabakh

The International Olympic Committee has apologized to Azerbaijan over political remarks made by France2 channel during the opening Ceremony of Paris 2024. In a letter sent to Azerbaijan, the Azerbaijani Minister of Youths and Sports, the IOC said the words used by the reporters of France 2 television during the retransmission of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games Opening Ceremony were not in line with the principles and the values that the International Olympic Committee promotes through sport and through the Olympic Games.
“We have been in contact with all the responsible parties to remind them about our principles and working protocols. Please rest assured that clear indications have been delivered to avoid any future references using similar terms,” the IOC wrote.
The remarks made by France 2 television that the International Olympic Committee refers were related to the Azerbaijan’s Nagorno-Karabakh region and the war between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
The letter was in response to the letter sent to the Olympic Committee by Azerbaijan on July 27.
